Christian Matijas-Mecca - Organist/Choir Accompanist
A native of Los Angeles, Christian has played at St. John since summer 2013 and formally joined the music staff in December 2013. Learn more.
Prior to St. Johnís, he served as substitute musician for various congregations in Wayne, Washtenaw, and Oakland counties. He is an Associate Professor of Dance and Music at the University of Michigan, was on the faculty at Interlochen Arts Academy from 1991-98, and served as musical director for First Congregational Church, Frankfort MI. Since 1994, Troy has had various responsibilities at St. John, including directing of youth, adult and handbell choirs and leading instrumental music participation. Learn more.
As leader of the Glorify Team and worship team, he collaborates with the pastors and other lay members of the congregation to design and implement inspiring and invigorating worship throughout the church year. He is also the Assistant Principal at Clarenceville High School, a position he has held since 2007. Troy lives in Farmington with his wife, Kari, and three children, Haley, Hannah, and Ryan, where he enjoys making music and rooting for the Tigers with his family!
The Chancel Choir, directed by Troy Nelson, sings at the 10:00 AM service every Sunday from early September through mid-June. Rehearsal days and times vary. Click here for a complete schedule.
All adults and youth who like to sing are welcome! No experience is required, and singers are not required to commit to every Sunday. Come when you can and make a joyful noise! For more information contact Troy.
The Chancel Bells, directed by JoAnn Adams, rehearse at 6:30 pm every Thursday, September through mid-June. They play at the Sunday service about once per month, and for festival services.
